Since the title of my blog is “the Blazerette”, I think it is fitting to give a few comments about my extreme happiness over last night’s championship-clinching game. There are many ways to speak of this. Many have tried. Take these quotes from some friends:
- “Was talking with my ex... she said she felt bad for Kobe...and I said…this is exactly why we broke up.”
- “Yea it was great to see how dejected [Kobe] was.”
- “This was my third best feeling I've had as a sports fan”
- "I am so happy I can say 'eff the Lakers!' Thank you Boston Celtics."
- “Jeepers, I sure am glad those evil Lakers lost!”
(Can you guess which one was from my grandma?)
I haven’t had the chance to rehash the game with all of my sports-fanatic friends, but I know the sentiment is all the same. The Lakers were spanked in front of everyone on Tuesday night. On the big stage. With their selfish star as the front-runner in their demise. He good the good old-fashioned spanking he's deserved for so long. Classic. Wonderful. Beautiful.
This doesn’t erase the heartache from 2000. The only thing that could possibly do that is a Western Conference Finals matchup in the next year or two between my beloved Blazers and the hated Lakers. Obviously, good would prevail and vanquish evil. I can’t wait for that day.
But until then? Evil has been vanquished from the NBA for this 2007-8 season. We’ll just have to make sure that the same holds true next year. :-)
